Terms of Service for PvPIndex
Last updated May 2, 2026
Key points
- You must be 13 or older to use PvPIndex.
- You may only claim a Minecraft account you personally own.
- ELO rankings have no monetary or legal value; we may recalculate them at any time.
- Fraud, rank manipulation, and harassment may result in permanent suspension.
- Server operators are responsible for all battle data submitted through their API key, including actions taken by their staff.
- Server moderators must not abuse in-game moderation tools to manipulate rankings or harass players.
- Verified server owners receive approximately 50% of ad auction revenue, split pro-rata by battle volume, subject to deductions and clawback if fraud is detected.
- PvPIndex is not affiliated with Mojang Studios, Microsoft, or Minecraft.
- The Service is provided "as is": we make no uptime or accuracy guarantees.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Gyvex ("we", "us", or "our") governing your access to and use of PvPIndex, including the website at pvpindex.com, the public API, and any associated services (collectively, the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
In these Terms, "Battle Data" means match results, player UUIDs, timestamps, server identifiers, replay file references, combat metadata, and any related ranking inputs submitted to the Service through the plugin API or any other authorised channel.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are between 13 and 18, you may only use the Service with the direct involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian. By registering you represent that all information you provide is accurate, current, and complete.
2. Accounts & Registration
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must not share your account with any other person or allow any other person to access the Service through your account.
Notify us immediately of any suspected unauthorised access at support@pvpindex.com. We will not be liable for losses arising from unauthorised use of your account before you notify us.
You may not create more than one account per person without our prior written consent. Duplicate accounts created to evade a suspension or ban will be terminated.
3. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to, and not to assist others to:
- Manipulate ELO rankings, including loss-farming, coordinated rank-boosting, or intentional disconnect abuse.
- Submit false, fabricated, or replayed battle data to the API.
- Harass, threaten, or intimidate any user, server operator, or staff member.
- Impersonate another player, server operator, moderator, or Gyvex employee.
- Use automated scripts, bots, or scrapers against the website or API in ways that impose unreasonable load or circumvent rate limits.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract any non-public portion of the Service.
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the Service.
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations.
- Post or transmit content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, abusive, or that infringes a third party's intellectual property rights.
4. Minecraft Account Claims
The claim flow links your Minecraft UUID to a PvPIndex account using a one-time verification code generated in-game. You may only claim a Minecraft account that you personally own. Claiming an account that belongs to another person (whether or not you obtained the code from them) constitutes identity fraud and will result in permanent suspension of both accounts involved.
Each Minecraft UUID may be linked to at most one PvPIndex account. We may ask for additional verification if we have reason to believe a claim is fraudulent.
5. Server Operators & API
Access to the plugin API requires an approved API application. By applying you agree to the additional obligations in this section and in our Server Developer Documentation.
Data accuracy. Server owners are solely responsible for ensuring that all battle data submitted to the API is accurate, was recorded from genuine player matches on their own server, and has not been altered in transit. The HMAC signature scheme exists as a technical safeguard; it does not absolve operators of this responsibility.
Trust score & API access. We assign each server a trust score (0–100) that influences the weight of ELO changes. We may adjust, suspend, or revoke a server's trust score or API access at any time without prior notice if we detect data anomalies or policy violations. Servers found submitting fraudulent data will be permanently delisted and all ELO changes originating from that server will be reversed.
Credential use. You must not resell or sublicense API access. Each API application corresponds to a single Minecraft server. Credential sharing across servers is prohibited.
Responsibility for staff. Server owners are responsible for the conduct of any staff member they grant a server role to on PvPIndex (see section 6). Violations committed by a moderator will be attributed to the server and may affect its trust score or result in suspension of the entire server's API access.
Fair-play environment. Server owners must not encourage, incentivise, or knowingly permit players to manipulate ELO rankings on their server. This includes arranged losses, boosting services, or any form of collusion. Discovery of such activity will result in a full ELO rollback for the affected server and permanent delisting.
Designated contact. Server owners must maintain a valid contact email address in their API application. We will use this address for security notices, policy updates, and moderation decisions affecting the server.
6. Server Moderators
Server owners may grant PvPIndex moderation roles to trusted staff members. These roles allow moderators to use in-plugin commands such as /pvpmod watch, /pvpmod replay, /pvpmod report, /pvpmod ban, and /pvpmod unban. By accepting a moderation role you agree to the obligations in this section.
Permitted use. Moderation tools may only be used for fair-play enforcement: reviewing replays for rule violations, reporting suspicious activity to PvPIndex staff, and issuing bans to players found guilty of rank manipulation, harassment, or other breaches of these Terms. All moderation actions are recorded in the platform's audit log.
Prohibited moderation actions. Moderators must not:
- Issue bans, reports, or restrictions motivated by personal disputes, retaliation, or competitive advantage.
- Access replay data or player statistics for any purpose other than fair-play review.
- Use their elevated access to influence their own ELO ranking or those of other players.
- Share, stream, or publicly disclose replay footage without the consent of all participants, except when reporting a violation to PvPIndex staff.
- Coordinate with server owners or other moderators to suppress legitimate dispute reports or conceal data anomalies.
Appeals. Players banned by a server moderator may appeal by filing a dispute on the relevant battle. Platform-level moderators may review the ban and override a server moderator's decision if it is found to violate these Terms.
Accountability. Abuse of moderation tools is treated as a policy violation by both the individual moderator and the server whose owner granted them the role. Penalties may include removal of the moderator's role, suspension of the server's API access, and permanent ban of the individual's PvPIndex account.
8. ELO Rankings & Battle Data
ELO rankings are calculated algorithmically using a K=32, trust-weighted formula applied to Battle Data submitted by verified servers. The algorithm is open-source and auditable at github.com/PVP-Index/battle-validator.
Rankings are provided for informational and competitive purposes only. They carry no monetary, legal, or contractual value. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or continued availability of any ranking or historical record.
We reserve the right to recalculate, adjust, rollback, or permanently remove any ranking, battle record, or season standing at any time (including retroactively) if we determine that data integrity has been compromised, an anti-cheat flag has been raised, or a moderation decision requires it.
Replay data. Battle replays may be recorded and stored by the Service. Replay availability is not guaranteed; recordings may be deleted at any time for storage, legal, or moderation reasons. Access to replay data is subject to the moderation-use restrictions in section 6.
Disputes. Players may dispute a battle outcome through the platform's dispute system. Gyvex and its platform-level moderators decide disputes at their sole discretion. A decision becomes final once a platform moderator has reviewed and closed the dispute.
9. User Content
"User Content" means any text, images, or other material you submit to the Service, including forum posts, dispute comments, and server application messages.
By submitting User Content you grant Gyvex a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, non-exclusive licence to host, reproduce, display, distribute, and adapt that content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.
You represent that you own or have the necessary rights to the User Content you submit, and that it does not violate these Terms or any applicable law. You remain solely responsible for your User Content. We may remove any User Content at any time without notice.
10. Intellectual Property
The PvPIndex name, logo, branding, and all non-open-source portions of the Service are the exclusive property of Gyvex and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of any Gyvex IP to you.
Certain components are published under open-source licences: the battle-validator package is MIT-licensed. Those components are governed by their respective licences, not these Terms.
PvPIndex is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or approved by Mojang Studios or Microsoft Corporation. Minecraft is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation. References to Minecraft in these Terms and on the Service are solely to describe interoperability with the Minecraft game and do not imply any association with or approval by Mojang Studios or Microsoft Corporation.
11. Suspension & Termination
We may suspend or permanently terminate your account, or restrict access to parts of the Service, at our sole discretion, with or without notice, for any violation of these Terms or for any conduct we determine to be harmful to the Service, its users, or Gyvex.
You may delete your account at any time by contacting support@pvpindex.com. Deletion does not automatically erase historical battle records or rankings; refer to our Privacy Policy for data retention details.
Sections 8 (ELO Rankings), 9 (User Content), 10 (Intellectual Property), 12 (Indemnification), 13 (Disclaimers), 14 (Limitation of Liability), and 15 (Governing Law) survive any termination of these Terms.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Gyvex and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with (a) your access to or use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your User Content; or (d) your violation of any third-party rights.
13. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that (a) the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, or error-free; (b) any ranking, stat, or battle record is accurate or complete; (c) any defect will be corrected; or (d) the Service is free of viruses or other harmful components.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Gyvex and its affiliates, officers, directors, and employees shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages (including loss of profits, data, or goodwill) arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
In no event shall Gyvex's total cumulative liability to you exceed the greater of (a) €50 or (b) the amount you paid to Gyvex in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Nothing in this section limits Gyvex's liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. If you are a consumer, statutory rights that cannot be waived by contract are not affected by these Terms.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, unless mandatory consumer-protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise.
If you are a consumer located in the European Union, you may also submit a complaint to the online dispute resolution platform of the European Commission at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms at any time. For material changes we will provide at least 14 days' notice by posting a notice on the Service or sending an email to the address on your account. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of any revision constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Service and may delete your account.
